In the Garden in Late May
Near the end of May, the vegetable garden, flower beds, and shrub borders are flourishing. We have harvested some vegetables, and many species are in flower with more on the way. We have radishes, lettuce, spinach, peas, chard, cucumbers, bush beans, scarlet runner beans, arugula, parsley, cilantro, potatoes, tomatoes, chives, onions, garlic, mesclun mix, zucchini, and various herbs to support and harvest. Some replacements for radishes and early spinach are already seeded.
There are many perennials, a few annuals, and a succession of flowering shrubs to enjoy. Shared here are photos from daily garden walks – painted daisy, Lewisia, Lilac, Aeonium, Penstemon, Solomon’s seal, Clematis, Iris, Lupine, Spirea, Himalayan fleeceflower, Calendula, daylily, and Dianthus in a Google Photos album (link), embedded into this post:
Long days of landscaping have been the main task over the last 6 weeks since the lot next door has a house and yard in final stages. Boulder slopes, block retaining walls, transition borders, and irrigation has taken most of the time spent out in the garden.
