Tohono Chul Gardens
We stayed in the Tucson area at the end of winter and hiked trails every day, but we also visited some gardens in the area, with a focus on flowering plants of the Sonoran Desert and others suitable for home gardens in that climate. On other days we visited gardens featuring only Native Plants.
Tohono Chul (desert corner) Gardens is located in the northwest side of Tucson.
"Named one of the World’s Great Botanical Gardens by Travel + Leisure,Tohono Chul is a garden, an art gallery, and a bistro - all rolled into one. The grounds include three trails (1/4 mile, 1/5 mile, and 1/2 mile), a performance garden, a hummingbird garden, a geology wall, and a restaurant known for tranquil outdoor dining and flavorful dishes."
Some of the flowering plants we observed were aloe vera, ice plant, golden barrel cactus, Lampranthus, century plant, five-needle prickly-leaf, Layia, sand-dune wallflower, plains blackfoot, and Phacelia.
Shared here are some of the author’s photos of these flowers from our garden tour – Tohono Chul Gardens
